DIY Dollar Tree Chandelier
This DIY Chandelier was only $1 to create! All the materials used to make this Boho Chandelier can be found at Dollar Tree. The best part about this DIY is that I used items from my recycle bin! I turned trash into treasure and you can too by following this DIY Chandelier tutorial! Keep reading and watch the video below to learn how to make this $1 DIY Dollar Tree Chandelier!
Everything you need to make this Boho Chandelier can be found at Dollar Tree (I used my sewing machine but you can use glue and string if you don’t sew).
I was inspired to make this Boho Chandelier during my Craft with Trash Challenge.
One of the prompts on my challenge is to “make something pretty using cereal boxes” and I think this chandelier is SUPER pretty!

This $1 chandelier is really gorgeous in person.
For this tutorial, I made my own templates using drinking glasses from my kitchen. I’m including the size of each circle and how many I used in each size on the instructions below.
This project took about 1-2 hours to make… if you paint your cereal boxes before you stencil and cut, you will drastically reduce the time and reduce making a big mess (like I did, lol).
Disclaimer: I did not use a light with this chandelier and do not plan to add a light because it’s made with paper.
I hung my chandelier in our master bedroom next to our faux fireplace. We had an existing ceiling hook there already so that’s why I hung it in our bedroom 😉
It looks beautiful without a light inside it and I could see this hanging in a large closet. laundry room or girl’s bedroom.

Supplies:
- Cereal Boxes
- Paint in your preferred colors (I used Marth Stewart multi-surface paint colors: Wet Cement, Gray Wolf, Sterling)
- Sewing Machine (or glue and string)
- Metal Plant Hanger (or wreath form)
- Diagonal Pliers
- Spray Paint (I used white)
Directions:
- Gather Supplies. Watch the video below for more instructions.
- This next step is important because if I were to make this chandelier all over again, I will definitely do it this way rather than the way I did it… Paint the PRINTED side of the cereal boxes in your preferred colors.
- While the paint is drying, use the diagonal pliers to clip the ends of the plant hanger so you’re left with just the ring and the chains to hang it.
- Spray paint the metal hanger in your preferred color (or leave black if you want it black). I painted mine white because I wanted a boho style chandelier. To spray paint the hanger, I hung it on a clothing line outside and let it dry that way too.
- Use various drinking glasses to trace 3 different size circles (1.5 inches, 2 inches, and 2.5 inches) on your painted cereal boxes. Use these as stencils to cut the remaining circles.
- Cut 14 Large Circles, 56 Medium Circles, 70 Small Circles in various colors (you want the colors to be mixed on the chandelier.
- Use a sewing machine to sew one straight stitch to make a cascading strip of circles from large to small. My strips had 1 Large Circle, 4 Medium Circles, 5 Small Circles. If you don’t have a sewing machine, you can use glue and string.
- Use a hole puncher to punch a hole at the top of each strip and use wire or string from Dollar Tree to attach to the metal plant hanger.
- Hang and enjoy!
I hope you enjoy making this Paper Chandelier using Cereal Boxes! This DIY chandelier frame was only $1 and making this boho paper chandelier DIY was a fun craft to upcycle cereal boxes!
