Agape Wrap – Easy Shawl Crochet Pattern

Today’s super simple, yet beautifully luxurious pattern, works up quickly and easily with a chunky, pima cotton! It’s the perfect, mindless summer project as you work a basic stitch repeat throughout the pattern. Named “Agape” for love, it’s seriously like wearing a gentle hug. When I learned about this chunky weight, drapey cotton that’s available from WeCrochet (HERE), I couldn’t wait to get my hands on it! Many cottons that I find are of the kitchen cotton variety and aren’t always ideal for shawls and wearables (I’ve loved the kitchen cottons for washcloths and more, of course). I’m thrilled to know about this yarn, not only for wearables, but for blankets. If you want to make a super special baby blanket – OMG! Also, did I mention it’s chunky? I’d definitely say it’s sort of like a “thick & thin” because it does get thin in places. However, this adds to the rustic, natural vibe of the yarn in my opinion.

This pattern works up quickly because I used a really large hook. The chunky yarn, while fluffy, is still airy and light enough for spring and summer use. If you’ve got a last minute gift to make, or you enjoy making prayer shawls, this is your project. 🙂 Billow isn’t a cheap or inexpensive yarn, so it’s certainly one that you’d use for meaningful projects.

Not important for this pattern

Abbreviations & Skills:
ch – chain

st – stitch

sts – stitches

ch sp – space

dc – double crochet

sl st – slip stitch

sp – space

Notes: This pattern is made with a simple repeat, so once you get past row three, you’ll find it’s super easy to make! In order to make it longer or shorter, simply crochet for more or fewer rows while following the pattern repeat. Have fun!

Agape Wrap – Easy Triangle Shawl Pattern Instructions

Ch 4, sl st to join ends to make a circle

Row 1 Ch 3 (counts as 1st dc stitch here and throughout the pattern), 2 dc into circle, ch 2, 3 dc into circle. (6 dc and 2 ch sts)

Row 2 Ch 3, turn, 2dc into the first st, (3dc, ch 2, 3dc) in middle ch2sp, 3dc in last st of row which is the ch 3 of the previous row. (12 and 2 ch sts)

Row 3 Ch 3, turn, 2dc into first st, 3dc in next space (this is the space created between groups of 3dc), then (3dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in middle ch2sp, 3dc in next space, 3 dc in top of last stitch of row.

Repeat row 3 for entire pattern working 3dc in each space across to middle ch2sp and in each sp to end of row.

Work until your piece is approximately 30” from bottom tip to the top of the wrap. You can make it longer or shorter if you’d like by simply crocheting for more or fewer rows.

Tie off and weave in ends! Feel free to add tassels to the points or fringe along the sides.
