Bloom Where You Are Planted Quilt Block Pattern
The Bloom Where You Are Planted quilt block pattern is a free pattern for a 10″ finished large flower quilt block. It is block six in the Riley Blake Quilt block challenge.
Welcome to week six of the Riley Blake Quilt Block challenge. If you’re new here, the Block Challenge is a weekly quilt hosted by Riley Blake Designs. They share a free quilt block pattern each week between January and May (except the last week of the month, which is catch-up week).
At the end of the challenge, they will share setting instructions to create your own sampler quilt.
This is block six, which is the last of the February quilt block patterns.
About the Quilt Block
Block six in the challenge is designed by Jennifer Long of Sew a Story. Jennifer says of her block design: “It’s a whimsical interpretation of a blooming flower with leaves. And the center of the flower is perfect for fussy cutting, adding extra embellishment, or highlighting a favorite print!”
Jennifer has created her blocks with her new line of fabrics from Riley Blake To Grandmother’s House. If you like to machine embroider, you should visit her site. She has a free coordinating embroidery design to compliment her fabric collection that you can use on your block.
I’m constructing my quilt from my new Tulip Cottage fabrics with Riley Blake. For my quilt block, I chose to fussy cut the largest center flower from the main floral print in the line. Per your request, here are all the fabrics and SKU’s I used in this block.

What do I do with the Finished Quilt Block?
When you finish sewing, you may wonder what you can do with the quilt block. There are a few options. The first is to keep sewing all the blocks in the challenge and finish them, as Riley Blake suggests at the end. They will share a free PDF with finishing instructions.
Since the quilt blocks all finish at 10″, you can also use the finishing instructions from a previous year’s quilt block challenge if you prefer.
