There’s nothing so satisfying as making something, wearing it in public, and having someone ask where you got it. The first day I wore one of these fun DIY baseball caps, I had the satisfaction of being able to tell my friend that I made them!

It’s something that I love so much about Cricut — it’s a crafting tool that helps you make things that look incredibly professional, polished, and perfect. But we’ll get into that more in a second.

What Cricut Machines Does This Project Use?

For our DIY baseball caps, we’ll be using a Cricut Joy and Cricut’s new Hat Press. Let me tell you, this is such a fun combination of tools and it makes this DIY a total snap.

I love the Cricut Joy because it’s small, lightweight, and incredibly fast to use for small projects like this one. I can set it up in a snap.

It also is compatible with Cricut’s Smart Iron-On, which means that you don’t have to mount your iron-on material to a cutting mat. You just feed it into the machine and it cuts without a mat, eliminating a step and making things very quick.

And the new Hat Press?! Oooooh boy, I love this thing! It’s the first heat tool I’ve used that has a curvature on the heated surface, which makes it perfect for pressing Iron-On Vinyl designs onto hats!

It even comes with a hat form, which keeps the hats in the perfect shape and position for heat pressing.

How to make DIY Baseball Caps with a Cricut

Start by designing your project in Cricut Design Space. I chose a basic font and used the font curving tool to arrange the letters into an arch. Measure your hat to ensure your lettering is the size you like; I recommend no wider than about 4.5″. Also be sure to mirror your image when selecting cutting settings.
Send your design to the Cricut Joy. Insert the Smart Iron-On material in the machine and allow it to calibrate. Select the proper cutting settings on your computer and when ready, tell the machine to start cutting!
Once the pieces are cut, remove the Iron-On from the Cricut Joy and weed out the excess material.
Mount your baseball cap onto the hat form, ensuring that it’s nice and snug. Trim around your cut design and use Heat Resistant Tape to tape it to the front of your baseball cap.
If you haven’t already, set up the Cricut Heat App on your phone. Plug in and turn on the Hat Press. The app will prompt you to connect to the Hat Press and will walk you through selecting the correct settings.
Press the go button on your Hat Press and gently press it into your design. You may need to slide it back and forth a bit to get to the edges of your design. Continue pressing until it beeps, then replace it onto its stand.
The Heat App will recommend a proper peeling technique (warm peel or cool peel). Follow those instructions as you remove the tape and Iron-On backing from your hat.

Can I Make These With My Cricut To Sell?

Absolutely! These tools make it easy to create a large batch of DIY baseball caps (or any other Cricut project you can think of!) and sell at a market or in an online shop.
