Inspired by the rich, vibrant colors of the holiday, we created these beautiful and simple DIY Eid decorations using empty glass jars, some paint and simple vinyl-cut moon and star shapes.
Making Decorative Jars for Eid
One thing is for sure, whatever the occasion, my sister Jane and I love to craft! We were inspired by the traditional rich colors of Eid to make these pretty jars for the holiday. I will never forget one of my trips abroad where I witnessed the festivities celebrating the end of Ramadan. The abundance of color the women and children were wearing with their beautiful vibrant colored gowns everywhere I turned was utterly amazing!
Using our Cricut Joy (although any craft cutting machine will do), we cut out the simple moon an star shapes in coordinating gold and purple vinyl to be placed on painted glass jars. Glass jars make the best craft supply for so many reasons, not only are they super inexpensive, especially when you can reuse and upcycle the jars but they are a blank canvas when it comes to creative ways of using them!. This could be why we always have empty glass jars on hand to craft with when inspiration strikes!

- Set of 2 Jars, 1L Smooth Rounded Jar with shoulders; lids removed (we used Bernardin glasss jars)
- Multi Surface paint in purple (such as this Eggplant color from DecoArt)
- Gold Metallic paint (we used DecoArt Extreme Sheen in Champagne Gold)
- Paintbrush
- Removable Glitter Vinyl in purple
- Removable Vinyl in gold
- Cricut Transfer Tape
- Cricut Joy and standard grip mat
How to Make these Decorative Eid Jars:
Thoroughly wash jars with soap and hot water and let them dry completely before using. Additionally, use rubbing alcohol and a clean paper towel to wipe away any prints or smudges.
Using a medium sized paint brush, brush on a coat of purple multi surface paint on one jar and brush on a coat of gold metallic paint on the other jar. Leave the paint to dry before applying additional coats for extra coverage.
In the meantime, prepare the vinyl moon and star images.
Preparing the Vinyl Moon and Star Cutouts
Using Cricut’s Design Space, insert two circle shapes onto the blank canvas and overlap the circles to create a crescent moon shape on one side.
Highlight both circles and select “slice” to separate the shapes. Keep the crescent moon shape and discard the other shapes.
Insert a star shape onto the canvas and resize it to fit inside the curve of the crescent moon.
Attach the two shapes together and resize them to fit on the jar. In our case, we sized them to 3.5” high.
Duplicate the image to create two cutouts and change the colors to match your vinyl material color, in our case we’re using purple and gold.
Select Continue to proceed with the cut and follow prompts on the screen. Place the vinyl on the mat and insert into the cutting machine.
Once cut, remove the vinyl and peel away the excess vinyl leaving only the moon and star shapes.
Place a piece of transfer tap over top and transfer the vinyl on to the jar. Gently rub the vinyl on to the jar to help it stick and then peel away the clear transfer tape. Repeat for each jar.
Do the same for the other colored jar to complete these DIY Eid decorations and then fill with chocolate coins, flowers or even just leave the jars empty to use as pretty decor.
