Symbols of happiness and optimism, it’s no wonder we can’t seem to get enough of sunflowers these days! Luckily for us, they are in season here in South Western, Ontario, growing abundantly in neighbor’s gardens and sunflower farms. We wanted to capture their feeling of love and longevity with this beautiful DIY felt sunflower wreath craft.

To make our felt sunflower wreath, we used the felt sunflowers that we assembled using the printable pattern from our Etsy shop. We made a mix of classic yellow flowers and some more modern white colored sunflowers. Which ones are your favorite?

Materials Needed to Make a Felt Sunflower Wreath

Felt sunflowers (grab the printable pattern PDF from our etsy shop )
Grapevine wreath – 14” diameter
2” wide brown burlap ribbon (we used Rust Brown Cross Royal Burlap Wired Edge Ribbon, 2.5″)
Scissors
Hot glue gun
Raffia
Floral wire

Materials needed to make a felt sunflower wreath including a grapevine wreath, felt flowers, scissors, ribbon and hot glue.

How to Make a Felt Sunflower Wreath

First, start by making 9 felt sunflowers in a combination of sizes and colors. We made five golden yellow sunflowers and four white sunflowers to fit around the wreath. If using a larger wreath form, more sunflowers may be needed.

Cut ribbon to 30” long and cut a smaller piece 2” long for the center loop. Fold the ribbon in half creating a large loop at the top with the tails overlapping in the center as shown. Pinch the center of the loop together with the overlapping tails to form a single loop ribbon.

Secure with a piece of floral wire / twist tie or pipe cleaner.

Fold the small ribbon piece in half and wrap around the center of the bow, glueing it in place on the back side.

Put the bow aside.

Cut bunches of raffia and fold to form loops (about 6” long) on both ends. Secure the center with more wrapped raffia and glue to hold.

Glue the raffia bow to the bottom of the wreath form. I ended up making two of these for more fullness.

Layer the bow on top and glue in place.

Position the felt sunflowers around the wreath form, evenly spacing them apart and begin gluing them in place.

Once all the sunflowers are attached, hang your new DIY sunflower wreath and enjoy!
