DIY Photo Booth Strip Display Idea

When we travel as a family, we don’t buy tons of souvenirs. But we definitely take a ton of photos! And if there’s a photo booth within a 5 mile radius, you better believe we put that thing through its paces.

We have a stack of photo strips of our travels, and after years of letting them collect I finally put together a DIY photo booth strip display idea! It’s one of those duh projects that’s super simple, but has some specific tricks to make it look really polished and pretty.

What Do You Do With All Those Photo Booth Strips?

Photo booth strips are sometimes hard to know what to do with, right? They’re such fun memories and cool pieces of ephemera, but they’re a little tough to display. Do you hang them? Tape them up? Display them one by one? Clip them to something?

This DIY was born out of frustration at having all of those amazing memories hidden in a drawer in my desk.

In the past, I created a scrapbook specifically for our photo strips, which I loved — but I didn’t love that they were still tucked away in a book. I wanted a way to see them every day. I also created these giant oversized photo booth strips, but if you have a whole bunch of photos you want to display, that’s not very practical.

So this DIY is meant to solve all of those problems. It allows you to display your photo booth strips in a polished way, so that you can see them every day. It also allows for lots of strips, so if you’re an addict like me you can use everything you’ve got!

DIY Photo Booth Strip Display Idea

Materials

• photo frame with 11×17″ mat
• spray paint (optional)
• wood veneer (optional)
• iron (optional)
• scissors
• white paper
• photo strips
• Glue Dots

Make Time: 1 Hour (Plus Drying Time)

Instructions

1. Be sure you have the right size frame! This one is 14×20″ on the frame with a mat that creates an 11×17″ display. The display size is crucial to make sure the strips won’t be hiding under the mat. The 11×17″ size is perfect for displaying two photo strips stacked vertically near each other.
2. If you like the color of your frame, skip this step! But I wanted a pop of color. Remove the glass and backing so that you just have the frame. In a well-ventilated area, cover the frame with light coats of spray paint, allowing them to fully dry in between coats. For this step, a spray paint that’s paint and primer in one really works well. I used Krylon Satin Paint + Primer in Ballet Slipper.
3. While your frame is drying and curing, start lining up photo strips. Place the white paper down and the mat over the paper. Then arrange your strips in the order that you’d like. Once they’re all placed, next adhere a Glue Dot to the top and bottom of each photo booth strip, and secure them onto the paper. Keep checking that they’re centered in the mat.
4. If you’d like to add more details to your frame, then cut strips of the wood veneer on an angle. This wood veneer is pre-glued and you just need to iron it onto the surface of the frame. Start by aligning the edges of the veneer with the outside edge of the frame. Iron this down. Crease the veneer over and iron to the next surface. Continue this process until you have your desired pattern.
5. After your frame has completely cured, put the glass, mat, photo strips, and backing back together.
6. Hang your DIY photo booth strip display and enjoy!

Where to Hang Your DIY Photo Booth Strip Display

Can I be honest? Anywhere you love it! We have ours in our dining room currently, because it gets a lot of family traffic and we get to see it on the daily. But these would look super cute in the bedroom, bathroom, hallway, or even kitchen! Hang it wherever it makes you happy.
