Forest Lodge Chunky Throw Blanket Crochet Pattern

This “Forest Lodge Throw” is such a great go-to pattern to make, and it’s so warm and cuddly! Using super chunky yarn in the color of your choice, you’ll use an easy, textured stitch pattern to make this rustic, timeless blanket. It’s quick and easy to crochet with a big hook and yarn!

You can see the free pattern and picture tutorial below, or you may choose to purchase the ad-free printable HERE, or the kit (in many color options) from Lion Brand HERE.

Look at that texture, and that beautiful yarn!

The forest is a cozy, peaceful, beautiful place, and this blanket was made with this inspiration. I feel so lucky to live in the forest, and see the beauty of the trees throughout the times and seasons.

The color I chose for this blanket is not only beautifully rustic like the forest, but this color also happens to be right on trend. Apparently in home design there’s a desire for more organic colors. I LOVE this! And while I think your style shouldn’t depend on what’s trending, and should fully depend on what you love and like, I personally think this is a beautiful color to add to any space.

Such a great pattern for anyone – man, teen, girl, lady, friend, family! This is one of my favorite spots in our home. The chair is right next to windows that look out into the forest trees. Heaven!

At the SAME time, you can make this in any color you like! I love the Lion Brand Wool Ease Thick and Quick because there are TONS of color options (see them all HERE).

I’m going to share the full, free pattern, but I’m also happy to let you know that I have a video that can help you along with the stitch pattern used in this blanket!

This blanket uses the even moss crochet stitch, and I’ve linked to my picture tutorial on how to do it below. While this blanket is made with a larger hook and yarn, you will work the pattern the very same.

The even moss stitch is one of my very favorite crochet stitches because of it’s clean lines, and nice texture. Sometimes with crochet you get “holes” in the fabric, but this is a nice “holeless” fabric, which I love for a warm blanket. It’s a good one!

The stitch is also just a one row repeat once you get going, which is great to unwind and relax. It’s also totally beginner friendly.

This throw is crocheted from the bottom up using the beautiful even moss stitch. It’s very easy to make this blanket in any size you’d like with some simple adjustments!

Size Adjustments: To adjust the width of your blanket, you will want to start with a longer or
shorter chain in a multiple of 2. To make your blanket longer or shorter, you’ll simply crochet
more or fewer rows until your desired length is reached. Keep yarn needs in mind if you
adjust the size of your blanket.
Have fun!

st – stitch
sl st – slip stitch
hdc – half double crochet

Note the two size options have the same width, and therefore the same starting chain. The
length is different.

Row 2 Sl st into 1st st of row, hdc into next st, *sl st into next st, hdc into next st, rep from *
to end making a sl st into the final sl st. (The slip stitches are always worked into the slip
stitches, and the hdc stitches are worked into the hdc stitches)

Repeat row 2 until blanket reaches approximately 30” (50”), or your desired length. Tie off and weave in ends.

That’s all there is to this lovely blanket!

Enjoy your new, forest lodge worthy blanket!

  1. I’m confused with the pattern.
On this pattern Row 2 says “Row 2 Sl st into 1st st of row, hdc into next st, *sl st into next st, hdc into next st, rep from *to end making a sl st into the final sl st.”
And on the page with the picture tutorial it says “Row 2 Sl st into 2nd st from hook, hdc into next st, *sl st into next st, hdc into next st, rep from * to end making a sl st into turning ch, ch 1, turn”.
So is it the 1st or 2nd stitch from the hook and do you chain 1 or not?
