This past weekend during quarantine, I found yet another super cute way to reuse the mylar fringe party decorations I used for a Valentine’s Day party. I posted a quick video of the process in my Instagram stories and you all went nuts! So I figured I would put together a quick tutorial for how to make a metallic fringe pillow so you can make your own!

Luckily all the supplies can be delivered right to your door. And if sewing isn’t your thing, I have a limited quantity listed for sale in my shop.

Isn’t it the prettiest thing you’ve seen all week? So much metallic color and fringiness!

Materials to make your own Metallic Fringe Pillow:

• Metallic fringe in your choice of colors (I used aquamarine, fuchsia, baby pink, rose gold, silver, red, and gold for my backdrop)
• Zipper open pillow case (or two pieces of canvas cut 18″ by 18″)
• 1/2″ Duct tape (I used iridescent one from here)
• Scissors, sewing machine, pillow insert

Begin by cutting your fringe curtains into 6″ long sections and over lapping them to create a multi color strips like above.

Next, lay a piece of duct tape across the strips in the middle to adhere as many strips to the tape as possible.

Next, fold the tape in half to form metallic fringe trim.

Repeat as many times as needed to create fringe trim to fill your pillow when over lapping them. I just layed them out over the canvas as I made them and created lines of fringe trim about 3″ apart all the way up.

If you are using plain canvas, cut it into 18″ by 18″ squares and then sew on the metallic fringe trim in layers starting at the bottom and working your way up to the top of the canvas. Then place right sides together and and sew up three sides. Turn the case right side out and insert your pillow form, then either machine stitch or hand stitch the opening closed.

For the premade pillow case, seam rip the top and sides apart. Then sew on your fringe like above on both sides of the zipper. Next, fold the pillow case with right sides together and sew up the sides and top. Then turn it right side out and insert your pillow form.

Obviously you could make this in any solid colors like gold or silver. I am partial to the rainbow look!

The way the trim is made by folding it over with the duct tape and sewing, makes the pillow pretty sturdy. A few pieces of mylar may pull out over time. Since it is so full of fringe, however, it isn’t an issue.
