How to Make Mother’s Day handprint art

  1. Download the free printable
  2. Print in color on heavy cardstock
  3. Paint the palms of the child’s hand with paint (acrylic works great), and immediately stamp the hand on the paper at the top of a stem. Repeat for the other stem. The same can be done with fingertips to make the fingerprint buds. Wash hands immediately.
  4. Allow the paint to completely dry.
  5. Artwork will fit in an 8 1/2 X 11 inch frame or may be trimmed to fit in an 8 x 10 frame.

TIPS

  • If using an 8 x 10 frame do not place handprints too close to the edge. In fact, it would be best to trim cardstock first.
  • I use a paint brush instead of dipping the hand to keep from getting too much paint and making the details of the hand hard to see. Practice a couple of times before your final print.

  1. Hello,
We were so excited to print these for our grandsons to make for Mother’s Day, but the PDF printed the entire background in black which also negated the text saying I Love You. It used all my black ink to print the background and there was no option to choose grayscale as indicated in your instructions. Beautiful design…wish it was printable as it is shown as a PDF.

  2. Hello, Clare, this has to do with your printer settings. Try googling Why are my pdf files printing with a black background and white letters like a photo negative? You will find answers like this:

In the Print dialog, disable “Print in grayscale” if selected, click on the “Advanced” button and make sure that the “Negative” option is not selected. If you can’t deselect “Negative”, change the Color option from Composite to Composite Gray, for example, deselect Negative and change the Color back to Composite. Click OK to confirm and you can select “Print in grayscale” again if necessary.

It might be helpful to search for your specific computer and printers.

This actually happened to my husband when he was printing something and he had better luck printing from his phone.

    I hope this helps!

  3. So cute! Would love to make this now. I dowloaded and printed but the background, although it looks white in the download, print black.
