Make a Monogrammed Keychain with Liquid Polymer Clay
I just love this modern DIY with one of my new favorite craft supplies – liquid polymer clay! See how easy it is to make a monogrammed keychain that looks so cool people won’t believe it’s a DIY.
Have you ever used liquid clay? I had never tried it before, but after this DIY project it’s one of my new favorite craft materials to work with! So many possibilities. I’ve done lots of work with clay before (Sculpey is my favorite clay brand!), but clay that you can squeeze out of a bottle? Totally new to me. So I tried to make a monogrammed keychain with liquid polymer clay and the results totally blew me away.
What is Liquid Polymer clay?
Liquid polymer clay is a totally fascinating material! If you like to nerd out on craft supplies, you’re gonna love this stuff. You squeeze it out of a bottle that kind of looks like a bottle of school glue. You can apply it to a silicone mold, which you then bake. It can also be used to make window clings, draw on clay, use it as grout in clay mosaic projects – there are so many applications! After the clay bakes, it becomes firm but flexible, making it perfect for so many DIY ideas.

The Sculpey Liquid Polymer Clay comes in lots of different colors and finishes, but I think my favorite is the Confetti Glitter — it’s a liquid that bakes clear so that you can see the sparkly flecks of confetti inside! Other favorites are the metallic finishes, like gold and rose gold (you can see these in our finished product photos).
Make a Monogrammed Keychain with Liquid Polymer Clay
Materials
- Sculpey Liquid Polymer Clay in your favorite color
- silicone alphabet mold
- keyring hardware with eye screws
- optional: leather or faux leather
- strong glue
- scissors
Make Time: 1 Hour (Plus Baking Time)
Instructions
- Start by setting your oven to the temperature suggested on your bottle of clay. Gently stir your Liquid Polymer Clay (you’ll want to do this before use every time). Then begin filling your alphabet molds with the Sculpey Liquid Polymer Clay. I recommend not filling them any higher than about a half inch, to make sure your keychain doesn’t get too large. Just twist open the top of your bottle and squeeze it into the appropriate mold. Once finished, I like to gently tap the sides of my mold to release any bubbles and help spread the liquid clay. Pop any bubbles that come to the surface.
- Bake according to the instructions on your bottle.
- Remove from the oven and let cool.
- While the letters are cooling, you can make your leather or faux leather tassels if you like! Start by cutting two strips of leather, one that’s 1/4″ x 1 1/2″, and another that’s 1 1/2″ x 5″.
- On the larger piece, fringe one long side of the leather by cutting it into strips but leaving the opposite side intact. Place this piece right side down on your surface.
- Fold and glue the smaller piece into a loop. Place a line of glue along the intact edge of the larger piece of leather.
- Place the small loop on one end of the large piece. Then carefully roll the fringed piece around the loop until you have a tassel. Be sure the ends are securely glued.
- Once your clay letters are cooled, remove them from the mold. Trim any excess clay. Carefully screw an eye hook into the top of your letter (the clay is flexible enough to screw by hand, but firm enough to hold onto the screw!).
- Attach all of your other hardware, and the tassel as well.
- Put your keys on and enjoy!

This is something my daughter and I haven’t tried with our liquid polymer clay yet. Thanks for the idea. It’s great, especially with the holidays just around the corner lol.
