Top 10 Knitting & Crochet Patterns of the Year

I’m still over here in shock that it’s the new year – anyone else? After taking some time to reflect and be with my family over the holidays, it’s exciting to start a new year of blogging with you.  Each year it’s a lot of fun to take a look at which patterns you most enjoyed.  Today I’d like to share your favorite knitting and crochet patterns of the last 12 months!  It’s quite an interesting list as the project types are so diverse. From mega-knit blankets to little hot pads, this was the year of project variety. Check out the list of favorites below!

Wintertide Throw Blanket Crochet Pattern (here)

It’s been so fun to see the different colors that you’ve used when making this blanket! There was a lot of texture in home decor this year, and this blanket seems to be in keeping with that trend. Plus, it’s not boring to make (for those of us with blanket boredom – ha!)

Light Snow Oversized Cardigan Crochet Pattern (here)

Quick, easy and fun to make, this cardigan was one of the top sweaters here on the blog this year.

Winter Cuddler Throw Knitting Pattern (here)

Although this fun afghan came out at the end of the year, several of you hopped right on it!  Being that it’s a stitch sampler, it’s a great way to learn new stitches or just create a pretty, textured piece for your room.

Simple Go-To Blanket Crochet Pattern (here)

Holding steady more than a year later, this oldie but goodie seems to be the go-to for a lot of you!

Painted Sky Comfy Shrug Knitting Pattern (here)

This beginner friendly pattern had many of you knitting your first cardigan.

I’m still using my hot pad and I love the high quality look and feel of it.

How To Easily Knit A Big Yarn Blanket (here)

This pattern has gotten the most views of any video on my YouTube channel (HERE) and it’s not slowing down! Folks still love making the big knit blankets.

Santa Monica Bias Wrap Crochet Pattern (here)

This wrap is worked on the bias and is sooooo comfy!

Light Alpaca Poncho Crochet Pattern (here)

So basic, yet so perfect for any day.

Straw-like Backpack Knitting Pattern (here)

With the backpack trend staying strong this year, this knit version was a popular project.

Other popular projects included the Bobbles Circle Tote Crochet Pattern, the Easy Heirloom Knit Blanket and My Velvety Pullover Crochet Pattern.

  2. I love these, Jessica. And you make me want to learn to knit now, too. Do you have any tips on how to crochet something large, like a blanket and a garment, in a decent amount of time without it stressing your joints? I love to crochet but whenever I try big items that take some time my joints feel the stress.

    1. Ugh – that’s too bad Janelle. The only time I had trouble and basically injured myself was when I tried to crochet a big blanket in a day or two. I really think the only way to save your joints is to not to crochet too quickly or too much in a short period of time. So I’m not sure there’s a good answer! Maybe someone else can chime in. The other thing I learned is that you need to STOP if you feel any bit of pain at all. I felt my finger hurting, but would just shake it out and keep going. I ended up having that finger in a splint! I think our hobby is meant to be slow and enjoyable rather than fast and furious – even though I often go fast and furious. 🙂

    2. Janelle, when I am working on a large afghan or blanket I don’t try and hold the whole thing. You might also not be sitting in a comfortable position to crochet. Your arms should be loose but supported. I set in a double chair with a small pillow on either side to put my arms on. The afghan is usually in one of my large laundry baskets or plastic bins and it moves from one side of me to the other into another basket or bin. I hope this helps.

  4. Great patterns!! I wish I could crochet and knit better. I’m looking for a pattern for a throw blanket that I start in the middle and just crochet round and round.

  5. Happy New Year Jessica, hope you and your family had a great holiday. I have a question about the light snow white cardigan. Can any other yarn be used to make it? I am allergic to wool. Thanks again for all that you do for us.

    1. Yes! As long as you’re using a super bulky #6 yarn, you can use any fiber you’d like. Hope this helps!

  8. A few years ago I started having mini-strokes (TIA). A few days after my first one, I had a heart attack. A year taking drugs that made my lose balance and fall down, breaking ribs and a concussion, and I was a mess! I was in and out of the hospital, stayed home a lot, and drastically increased the amount of time spent knitting. At first, my hands would go right to sleep and I’d have to stop for a few minutes. It’s been a few years, I’m off all the drugs except Lo-Dose aspirin, and my hands never tingle at all. I think it is your wonderfully easy patterns that helped me to heal! Thank you so much!! P.S. I’m glad you won that Indie Designer Category, I voted for you FOR SURE!!! Congrats.
