What Is Temporary Tattoo Paper?

Printable Temporary Tattoo Paper is hands down, one of my main craft supplies. If you’re new around here or new to this fun medium, I thought I’d share a little introduction to this versatile product. Hopefully it will answer any questions you may have before using it for your trendy floral nail art.

You can make all sorts of temporary tattoos with Silhouette America’s printable Temporary Tattoo Paper. When you use temporary tattoos the traditional way (by applying it to your skin), they are perfect favors for kids’ and adults’ parties and even sporting events. What’s also fantastic about these temporary tattoos is that you can apply them to smooth surfaces like your nails! Your floral tattoos can be applied easily with water, and generally last a few days if you apply a clear coat on them. The last time I did this my own nail art like this, the tattoos lasted almost a week!

Silhouette America produces a number of temporary tattoo paper options:

  1. Clear
  2. Gold
  3. Silver
  4. White

For our nail trends project today, we will use the clear sheets. Why? Because you can print the flowers on the sheets and they will appear with a transparent background which is perfect for your nails!

How To DIY Nail Trends With Temporary Tattoos

Apply Your Nail Polish

If you have not done so already, apply your nude or neutral colored nail polish to your nails, and let them dry. Don’t apply the top coat yet – save it for after the floral nail art temporary tattoo is applied.

Source or design your own floral image for your nails

You can either make your own design from scratch or source an image. You can find pretty images at sites like Creative Market or Design Cuts. I would recommend getting an image that has a clear background (with a .png extension)

Open your floral image in the Silhouette Studio software

  1. Open your image in Silhouette Studio or any graphic software you have
  2. Mirror your image so that it is reversed. When printed on temporary tattoo paper and applied to your nails, it will appear the correct way
  3. Resize the image so that it will fit on your smallest nail – or make various copies in sizes of all your nails
  4. Replicate and place your images in the printable area of your software

Send Your Nail Art to Print on Temporary Tattoo Paper

  1. Load your temporary tattoo paper into your printer, making sure that the images will print on the glossy side. I recommend using the highest quality print settings or photo paper settings
  2. Send to print
  3. Once printed, let the ink dry

Prepare the Temporary Tattoos for your Nails

  1. Apply the clear adhesive sheet (with the green backing) to the top of the sheet you just printed with your floral nail art images
  2. Use the scraper to smooth out any bubbles and rub the adhesive to the images

Apply Your Floral Tattoos To Your Nails

  1. Use your scissors to cut out the floral nail art images, staying very close to each image’s edge
  2. For each tattoo, peel off the clear adhesive layer
  3. Apply each floral tattoo image down on your nail, and cover with a wet cloth or sponge for 10-15 seconds until the white paper backing slides off easily
  4. Apply the top coat to seal the tattoo
  5. Repeat for each nail

And that’s it! Now that we’re home, we can DIY our very own nail trends! A little creativity and temporary tattoos go a long way. Tell me in the comments below how your fabulous nails turned out!
