It’s easy for kids to customize this sensory bag too! They can color the snail in their favorite colors with crayons, markers or even paint. Instead of pom poms, you can also use small beads.

Supplies To Make a Snail Sensory Bag

  • Sealed Bag â€“ we used Large Ziploc Bags
  • Clear Hair Gel – you may need 1 or 2 bottles depending on the size of the bottle. Check your dollar store for a low cost option. You can also use clear shampoo or body wash gel, just be aware these create more bubbles in the bag.
  • Small pom poms
  • Coloring supply – we used markers but you can also color in with crayons, colored pencils or paint.
  • Snail Template – You can get this template as a BONUS for pre-ordering my new book! See directions below on how to get the template!

2. Start by coloring the snail template. This sample project was colored with markers.

Then, cut it out.

3. Add clear hair gel into the bag. Fill it so that it is easy for the pom poms to move around. You can also use clear shampoo or body wash but it will create more bubbles in the bag.

Add Hair Gel into Storage Bag

4. Then add in your pom poms. If you are finding it is difficult to move the pom poms around in the bag, add more hair gel in.

5. Seal the bag.

To prevent younger kids from opening the bag, add extra duct tape on top of the bag to seal the bag closed. Always supervise when using small pieces with kids.

Tape the snail template down and the bag so that it does not move around.

The bag is now ready to use! Kids will love moving the pom poms to make a spiral pattern on the snail shell.

This is also a great activity to practice fine motor skills.
