Treehouse Master Bedroom Tour

Nordic meets Mid-Century meets eclectic in the Treehouse master bedroom. See how we went from gloomy + rustic to light + serene!

Big Day TODAY! The master bedroom at the Treehouse is done, and spoiler alert: It’s beautiful!! If you’re just tuning in, read up on the design plan and progress update posts. We went from rustic and gloomy, (below was how the seller had the space set up) to bright and serene, using the home’s natural landscape as our inspiration guide.

My amazing parents have been so patient and helpful amidst the chaos. (Thanks mom and dad!) Now that’s done, let’s dive into the deets!

We grounded the room with a big, gorgeous rug from Loloi. This is the 8×10 Loren/Terracotta Sky. The rug is printed, though it has so much depth, you’d never know it unless you studied it. And $745 for an 8×10 rug can’t be beat!

My dad sanded his life away on the two doors (bathroom and main door) to take off the honey oak finish and seal them with a clear water based poly to match the new patio door. (We had to replace the old one as it was leaking water into the floor below.)

The furniture and styling are really the piece de resistance in here! The Tessu Bed from Article, upholstered in a linen-esque taupe texture, sets a serene, minimal tone in the room.

On the nightstand front, we went for the Napa Tables from AllModern. The light wood brings in a bit of Scandinavian Modern, and the ceruse finish + cane bottom shelf are just all around gorgeous details. AllModern is a one stop shop for nightstands–they literally have hundreds of options and something for every style. I also searched keyword ‘accent stool’ and *almost* steered my parents towards these stools for nightstands, but ultimately loved the size and functionality of the Napa Tables.

The Beau Mirror from Article is a thing of true beauty. It is SOLID and blends our Mid-Century and utilitarian Nordic styles in one beautiful design

We carved out a little reading nook near the patio door with a leather sling chair draped with an ethically sourced sheepskin from Article and paired with industrial-chic Axis Floor Lamp.

In bedroom spaces, textiles really do make such a big impact because you’re interacting so closely with them. The white percale cotton sheets and shadow grey linen duvet and shams are from Bokser Home. If you haven’t tried linen bedding, it’s definitely worth exploring. The wonderful dry hand softens with each wash, and keeps you warm in the winter and cool in the summer.

Speaking of linen, the Flax Linen Kantha Quilt from St. Frank characterized by it’s tonal, running stitches, references the bed frame’s upholstery and brings texture to the bed layering.

I think some of the keys to working with a mostly neutral color palette is making sure you rock your contrast + texture, as well as using a mix of styles to keep the space visually interesting. More on how to add personality without chaos coming later this week so stay tuned!

As I mentioned in the design plan post, St Frank’s Star Muong lumbar pillow was the first thing we fell in love with for the room. The fabric is inspired by a vintage textile woven using traditional methods by the Muong people of northern Vietnam. In Muong culture, young girls inherit weaving techniques from their mothers beginning at an early age.

Since this room gets great morning light, we did two sets of Ikea Vilborg blackout drapery panels on the patio door. My mom DIY’ed the pinch pleats using The Grit & Polish’s tutorial, as well as hemmed the drapes. She said the pleating took AWHILE, but it was worth it.

Then let’s talk lighting. We fell in love with these Arterior Sconces, but the pricepoint, just wasn’t in the budget. One afternoon, I thought, I’m just going to check to see what Amazon has for sconces. Low and behold I found these rattan shade swing arm sconces at under $100 each! Initially I was going to RubnBuff them Antique Gold, but when they arrived, we liked the ORB finish, so we left them. One less thing!

We said sayonara to the outdated fan in here (that rarely was used) and replaced it with a super affordable rice paper lantern (and cordset) from Ikea. Seriously, this pair was $27!

Lanterns like these are great in bedrooms because they soften and diffuse light beautifully.

When it came to art, my mom and I had an arsenal of vintage art my Grandma Annie (my mom’s mom) had painted, including the sweetest portrait of my mom when she was little that is perfect for the nightstand. She also had a muted landscape picture from the 80’s that she bought at a home decor party someone hosted, kind of like Pampered Chef parties where you feel obligated to buy something. LOL.

Anywho, my mom has held onto this picture for over 35 years, and just so happens the colors and the serene feel are perfect above the bed. Originally, it had a lemon meringue color frame, so I Rub n Buff’ed it Antique Gold.

I’m SO grateful we could do this makeover for my amazing parents and equally glad they can finally use and enjoy the space!
