Using Wood Burning Pens for Crafting

Even I was amazed at how quickly I became hooked on using my wood burning pen to make these lovely ornaments for Easter. And I especially love that I can choose any design for any season or occasion to make these ornaments all year long. Using my Cricut cutting machine, I’m able to easily pick and choose templates from the Cricut Design Spce library.

Don’t have a Cricut? No problem. You can also use a standard painter’s stencil or even free-form the design directly on to the wood!

Choosing a Design

To begin, you can choose any one of the hundreds of templates in the Cricut Design Space library to cut out in a removable vinyl. Be sure to size it to fit on your wood slice or scrap piece of wood before cutting out the vinyl.

Cut it out with the Cricut cutting machine on any color using a Removable Vinyl.

Once cut, peel off the vinyl leaving behind the smaller letters. You want to use the knockout of the design so that the vinyl works much luck a stencil you. This is also a great option if you don’t have a cricut machine, simply choose a small scaled stencil to transfer the image on to the wood.

Place the vinyl knockout on top of the wood slice and press in place.

Apply the tip of the scorch marker on to the wood in the areas of the template/stencil that are open. Alternatively, you can also draw your own design by free forming if you’re so inclined.

Finishing

Once you’re happy with the design, finish off the wood slice by making it in to an ornament. Glue a ribbon or a pre tied bow and decorative faux florals onto the wood slice above the wood burned lettering. And lastly, add a ribbon loop to the top for hanging.
