FREE Glass Block SVG Files to Make a Loving Gift or Decoration!

Use these free glass block SVG files with a cutting machine to make beautiful glass block crafts.

I love quotes.  I love inspirational quotes, scripture, and love sayings.  I make signs, t-shirts, totes, tumblers, and wine glasses with all sorts of different sayings.

My new favorite item to place vinyl sayings on are glass craft blocks.  They are so easy and simple and make a beautiful gift for anyone.  Think Valentine’s Day, the birth of babies, weddings, anniversaries, graduation…you name it!

Since Valentine’s Day is coming up, I thought I’d show you how easy it is to apply vinyl to these versatile blocks.  You can add ribbon and jazz them up however you want, depending on your recipient. (I personally just like them as simple as possible!)

Oh, did I mention I have a couple of free glass block Cricut cut files for you to use on whatever you want?  In case you don’t like this You Have My Whole Heart For My Whole Life SVG file, I made another one for you!

  • glass blocks – I scored a bunch of these from Lowe’s at their end of Christmas season 75% off sale.  I got them for $2.50 each and they are the 8×8 ones!  Nothing like stocking up during a sale, right?  But you can easily find these at any craft store or even on Amazon here.  If you have a coupon, they’ll be much cheaper at a craft store.
  • Rustoleum Frost spray paint – you can find it on Amazon here, but probably much cheaper at Walmart or Home Depot
  • Crystal Clear Enamel spray
  • Vinyl – I prefer Oracal 651
  • Cricut cutting machine– always check prices between Cricut.com and Amazon (click links to compare!)
  • transfer paper and Cricut tools
  • fairy lights (optional)

Prepping Your Craft Block

The craft glass blocks come with a hole in the bottom so that you can put items inside like lights, sand, pebbles, bells, ornaments…

glass block craft ideas

On a previous craft glass block tutorial, I showed you how to add vellum to it to give it a more goldy appearance.  For this one, I simply sprayed Frosted Glass spray paint all over the block to mask the lights that will be inside.

This is an optional step if you are not going to put in lights or don’t like the look of frosted glass.

I originally tried to add the vinyl to the frosted glass and the transfer paper pulled up the frosted paint… not good!

So, I tried again.  This time I sprayed on two light layers of Crystal Clear Enamel Spray over the frosted glass and let that fully dry.

Applying Vinyl To Glass Block

Cut out your vinyl with a cutting machine and weed off the extra vinyl.

Apply transfer tape to cover the entire saying and scrape it down well.  I then trim around the edges so I can see the edges of the block.

Once it’s trimmed, place it on the glass block and align it by using a ruler.  I like to place some painter’s tape on the top to hold it in place.

Then I fold it over and simply pull the transfer tape off of the backing. Then gently lay the transfer tape with the vinyl wording down smoothly.

Scrape it down so that it sticks well.

Now gently pull off the blue painter’s tape and remove the transfer tape.

If you’d like, put a strand of fairy lights in the opening.  Make sure to leave out the battery pack so you can turn it on easily and close it up.

If you’d like to embellish it, add a ribbon or twine to it.  I preferred this one plain since it’s for my hubby and he’s not a ribbon type of guy!

Thank You so much for the Free Glass Block SVG. I made one as a gift for my son and now daughter-in-law. I added their name and the date of their civil ceremony since their original wedding date in January had to be moved to next January thanks to the Coronavirus. I had a little trouble with some of the frost pulling off but my husband was able to blend it enough not to be to noticeable without messing up the vinyl and I also added the mini lights. They both love it, especially since it has their names and the civil date on it. Their only civil/wedding gift with that date. Thank You once again for all the wonderful SVG's you send us.
